RegioJet packs its bags
The Czech rail operator RegioJet is officially pulling the plug on its Polish operations. They’ve cited 'predatory' pricing and anti-competitive behavior by the state-owned giant PKP as the primary reasons for their exit, barely months after they started running routes here.
Editor's note
Typical. We finally get a decent alternative to PKP—with better coffee and, you know, trains that don't smell like the 90s—and it gets choked out. It’s hard to foster a healthy market when the state incumbent acts like a playground bully.
The constitutional standoff hits a new low
Parliament has gone ahead and sworn in new constitutional court judges today, completely ignoring the President’s stance. To add to the chaos, the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court has rejected these same appointments, effectively turning the country’s highest legal body into a battlefield.
Editor's note
I’ve been here five years, and the political theater is exhausting. It’s like watching two people argue over the steering wheel while the car is already halfway into the ditch. Honestly, don't look to the news for any sense of stability today.
