Chinese national detained near German border
A 48-year-old Chinese citizen was taken into custody near the German border after being caught photographing critical rail infrastructure. Polish authorities are investigating the incident, as such sites are considered sensitive points of national security, especially given the ongoing logistics support for Ukraine.

Given the current geopolitical climate, you really have to be careful where you point your phone these days. I remember when tourists were just annoying at the Palace of Culture; now, a simple photo can land you in a serious interrogation room. Don't be the person testing the patience of the border guards.
World Bank critique of regional industrial policy
The World Bank’s latest spring economic update for Europe and Central Asia suggests that regional governments, including Poland, are focusing subsidies on the wrong industries. The report warns that propping up outdated sectors rather than investing in modern, innovation-led growth is a recipe for long-term stagnation.
Editor's note
It's a tough pill to swallow, especially when we see massive efforts to keep legacy manufacturing afloat here. With the PLN being as sensitive as it is to these macro shifts, one wonders if the strategy for our massive EV battery clusters—like those LG plants near Wrocław—will be viewed as 'future-proof' or 'subsidizing the past' in a decade.
